5 BASIC FOUNDATIONS OF A GREAT DESIGN: PERSPECTIVE

In our previous blog post, we have talked about effective design and why it is an essential part for branding and for overall marketing. It is important in growing brand consciousness within your business community and to your target market.

We have also talked about Insight, the first of 5 basic foundations of a great design. Now, we will move on the second fundamental – PERSPECTIVE.

Perspective is defined as a particular attitude or an interpretation of something; or to sum it up, it is a certain “point of view” – a mental impression.  So, why is perspective the second fundamental factor of a great design?

UNDERSTANDING THROUGH PERSPECTIVE

Designs, specifically visual designs, can be observed through vision. Through this vision, you can create a perspective; and through that perspective you will derive a perception or an understanding. This process of perception starts in your eyes. They receive the stimuli and create a vision of what you see. But vision alone cannot make sense of what you see. Thus, your brain will need to process this vision so that you can understand what you are looking unto.

Our visions are just the figures of the objects we see; our perceptions on the other hand, are the combination of our visions and our particular point of views or thoughts of what we see.

PERSPECTIVES AND IMAGINATION

As what artists and design gurus always say; “creativity and imagination are important for design”. But where do creative ideas and imagination starts? The answer is through PERSPECTIVES.

According to studies, the same part of the brain is being used in making perceptions and in imagination. This proves that both are connected with each other. You cannot imagine things and bring out your creativity without a perspective.

BRAIN HABIT KILLS CREATIVITY

More about brain studies, it is said by experts that experience modify perception and imagination – meaning, if our brain has more experience in a certain vision, the more efficient it will be in understanding that certain stimuli.

So if the brain is continuously becoming more efficient in understanding the same things that we see, it is a big challenge for designers and brand innovators to create new ideas and opportunities in creating new designs for brands. The key is to challenge the usual and the habitual perception of the brain through exploring NEW PERSPECTIVES.
